Black Devils
Black Devils
Deming High School was a prominent small-town school located in Mount Olivet within Robertson County, Kentucky. Its specific mascot name during its historical operation has not been specified in available records; however, the school was known for its competitive spirit, with records referring to the teams as the "Black Devils" in basketball or sometimes simply as Deming. The school ultimately ceased operations as an independent high school and became the K-12 building for the entire Robertson County School District in January 2013. The historic 1927 school building itself was tragically destroyed by an arson fire in July 2013, shortly after classes moved to the new facility, though elements like the archway lettering and a time capsule were preserved. The current Robertson County School is a modern K-12 school that serves the area. Regarding boys' basketball history, Deming High School had a notable program, particularly in the 1950s and into the 1960s. They were a strong contender within the KHSAA 10th Region (competing against larger schools like Maysville and Harrison County) and had several respected coaches, including Herman Hale who coached during much of the 1950s. The school was a consistent participant in district tournaments, although records indicate that neither Deming nor Robertson County ever reached the Sweet 16 state tournament. Their history is marked by strong community support and a resilient athletic tradition despite being a small school in a competitive region.
