Red Devils
Red Devils
Falmouth High School was a central educational and athletic institution located in the city of Falmouth within Pendleton County, Kentucky. Established in its primary brick facility around 1925, the school’s teams were historically known as the Red Devils (not to be confused with the contemporary Pendleton County Wildcats). The school served the community for over forty years, becoming a cornerstone of local life before the era of consolidation. The high school officially ceased operations in 1968 when it merged with other local schools to form the current Pendleton County High School. Following its closure as a high school, the building transitioned into Falmouth Middle School until 1995, and later became the Falmouth School Center, offering community services and adult education until it was permanently closed in 2020 due to deteriorating conditions and mold issues stemming from the 1997 flood. In boys' basketball, Falmouth High School maintained a storied tradition throughout the 1940s and 1950s, frequently competing in the 38th District. During the 1950s, the Red Devils were a consistent force in regional play, often battling nearby rivals like Butler and Morgan for district titles and the opportunity to advance toward the state tournament. While they did not secure a state championship during this era, their teams were highly regarded in the 10th Region for their discipline and community support, embodying the classic small-town Kentucky basketball culture of the mid-20th century.
